Responsibilities and Duties
- Utilise skills and experience to both develop and maintain strong technical process delivery, including innovation in the clean water municipal sector; providing continuous improvements to procedures, mentoring of team members and ensuring engineering process solutions are executed to benefit our clients and their needs
- Ensuring that in-house knowledge is maintained in line with industry best practice and technological developments, including strategic planning for extending skillsets associated with advanced technologies and market demand
- Actively seek out industry engagement through paper presentation at conferences, leadership articles in the media, and contribution to industry and professional bodies
- Support junior and senior process staff members in the successful delivery of a diverse range of water projects from initial bid to issue of reports
- Participate in business development and proposals, scoping of work, key tasks and packages and resourcing/time estimates
- Preparation and/or review of process design package deliverables such as technical specifications, calculations, reports, datasheets, P&IDs, mass balances, drawings, schedules, and associated process documentation. Review and execute tender evaluations
- Understand the requirements for installations in relation to DSEAR and hazardous area classification
- Participate in or review, site evaluations, problem solving and optimisation tasks as part of solution development strategies. Oversee testing, setting to work and commissioning stages relevant to mechanical equipment and installations.
Skills / Qualifications
Skills
- Strong technical process treatment and design skills combined with demonstrable track record in municipal water treatment process. Flexibility in being able to operate in other technical sectors is encouraged within Wood
- Able to communicate clearly in the English language; both verbally and in the production of good quality written documentation using MS Office applications
- Have a confident Client-facing manner, and be diligent, confident, collaborative and highly motivated; when working as part of a Client’s team, together with Wood colleagues, or independently
- Able to work accurately, flexibly and to integrate work into multi-disciplinary teams, whilst working to tight programme and budget constraints
- Able to run larger multi-disciplinary design projects including programming and resource planning as well as the ability to prepare review and approve calculations, reports, drawings and design briefs relating to process design and mechanical/ICA plant installations
- Have a heightened awareness of personal safety and a good understanding of the CDM Regulations
- Able to travel and visit engineering, operational and construction sites as required, to act in a safe manner, and to asset survey, inspect, and witness test mechanical E&I equipment and installations
- You will have a commitment to team goals, embrace collaboration at all levels in the business and embrace safety as a non-negotiable priority.
Experience
- Extensive knowledge and design experience in the treatment processes (incl. advanced technologies) used to produce clean water in the municipal sector; knowledge of the industrial sector is seen as beneficial
- Significant experience working in the UK Water Industry, either via consultancy or directly for a water company
- Operational experience is beneficial.
Qualifications
- Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in process/chemical engineering or chemistry, with membership of an appropriate professional institution
- Chartered Engineer (preferably Fellow of a major institution)
- APM qualified (desirable)
