Responsibilities

  • Owns and shapes The Better Plan, the Zero Harm & Net Zero Environmental Impact ambitions. Sets the company level strategy, policy, goals and KPIs and builds the commitment and engagement across the Company to meet them in an affordable way.
  • To be a reference point and nationally recognised expert within their field, contributing to thought leadership and innovation that influences change and advancement of the industry and/or profession whilst also acting as an ambassador for EDF Energy.
  • Integrates business unit needs and coordinates relationships with other parts of the Company to achieve long term industry leading performance. Promotes innovation and collaboration to achieve continual improvement or transformational change in certain areas. Achievements and outputs are subject to periodic review against targets by Executive Team and EDF Energy Board.
  • Connects externally and internally to generates new ideas, identify best practices and to promote sharing, often leads multidisciplinary UK or international change projects or initiatives with significant impact to achieve agreed milestones and objectives, benchmarks our progress internally and externally.
  • Shapes and leads the relationships with external parties to identify and provide leadership on emerging risks.
  • Anticipates internal and/or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues, sponsors and recommends process, product or service improvements.
  • Collaborates with other parts of EDF Group to shape Group policy, to innovate and ensure good practices are shared and that EDF Group expectations are deployed and met within the Company.
  • Identifies and manages relationships and partnerships with key external stakeholders to ensure their on-going engagement in our HSE and sustainable business programmes, drive improvement, foster external advocacy and value creation.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • NEBOSH Diploma & IEMA or as appropriate to functional roles
  • High level of professional skills in Health & Safety, Environment, Health and Well-being or Sustainable Business built through deep and broad experience across multiple sectors relevant to our business.
  • Deep experience of operating strategically at a Corporate level, with wide and developed knowledge of Energy Sector.
  • Has broad and comprehensive expertise in leading-edge theories (and the practical application of) techniques and/or technologies in the functional areas
  • Sound judgement to provide thought leadership and innovative solutions to maintain our industry leadership position.
  • Strong analytical skills and highly effective communicator at all levels internally and externally, with the skills to motivate, inspire and persuade.
  • Track record of effectively collaborating, innovating and driving cultural change in a large organisation and in a non-hierarchical environment.
  • Proven ability to effectively collaborate, and build strategic partnerships and relationships (internally and externally) that build transparency, trust and teamwork.
  • Results focussed tempered with team centred approach and uses own judgement and initiative.
  • Future focussed in identifying new ideas / opportunities, risks and implications; pragmatic in solutions and skilful in engaging others and influencing their actions.

  • Strong grip on UK HSE regulatory framework and compliance requirements (HSE specific).

  • Creative with the ability to influence change and achieve results with very limited directly controlled resources.
  • Strong project management and people skills to influence and persuade other to lead and promote the HSE SB agenda.
