Accountabilities/Responsibilities 

  • Use experience to provide state-of-the-art knowledge to UKAEA projects and to investigate new innovative concepts concerning a broad range of topics as needed and drive development in areas of expertise. 
  • Present completed novel activities at conferences and to submit associated papers for journal publication Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built. 
Knowledge skills and experience Essential 
  • Degree or higher in engineering, physics, chemistry, technology or similar science -Highly self-motivated and demonstrates initiative 
  • Demonstrated experience in implementation of specialist science/ engineering skills in R&D programmes 
  • Demonstrable ability to manage R&D work packages and project planning -Good verbal and written communication and diplomatic skill 
  • Knowledge of issues affecting material and component performance in harsh environment
  • Possession or significant progress towards accreditation with a professional body (e.g. CEng) preferred Desirable -Background or experience of multi
  • disciplinary R&D programmes -Knowledge and experience of preparing research proposals and/or project planning 
  • Experience of developing complex experiments and testing equipment 
  • Experience of overseeing technicians, junior staff and/or students preferred -Understanding of governance, H&S and compliance issues
